Fieldwork At Rawang Sub-Basin For Sungai Selangor

REPORT ON FIELDWORK ACTIVITY AT RAWANG SUB-BASIN

TITLE OF EVENT : FIELDWORK SESSION 2015 WITH DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHY STUDENT AT RAWANG SUB-BASIN FOR SUNGAI SELANGOR

INTRODUCTION
Rawang sub-basin is one the important sub-basin in the Sungai Selangor Watershed and is undergone a rapid urbanization where’s there’s a lot of industrial activities, development of new settlement, mining activities, agricultural, and farming. All of these anthropogenic activities are contributing towards the landuse conflicts in the Rawang sub-basin and to some extent it cause degradation in Sungai Selangor. On 31.08.2015 to 08.08.2015, Department of Geography, University of Malaya with collaboration the project of “Governance of Landuse Conflicts in The Sungai Selangor Wateshed” had organised fieldwork activity at Rawang Sub-Basin. Fieldwork session was conducted by the Senior Lecturer Department of Geography, Dr Mariney Mohd Yusof with her Research Assistant, Nursyazyla Binti Sulaiman, and be participated by 22 undergraduate students from the Department of Geography. 

REPORT
From 01.08.2015 to 05.08.2015, the student was divided into 4 group and be given task for the fieldwork. Fieldwork was seek to cover this five issues in Rawang sub-basin such as :
1.    Development Issues and Challenging Towards Rawang Town
2.    Recycle Issues at Rawang
3.    Human Perception on River at Rawang Sub-Basin
4.    Flash Flood at Bandar Country Homes : Factor, Impact, and Mitigation
5.    River Pollution at Sungai Rawang

On 06.08.2015, the student had visited the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), Gombak and was given a chance to meet Dr Asnor, the Engineer of District. Dr Asnor gave a lot of information to us about Rawang sub-basin and environmental problem. It such a good opportunity for coming there. After the fieldwork session and the slot at DID, each group of student was given one topic research to be present on 08.08.2015. They had given about one and a half day to prepare for their presentation.
Lastly, on 08.08.2015 was the big day which is it was a closing ceremony and the student also have to present all their output that they got during the fieldwork session. All of them had gave a brilliant performance. Prof Jamilah, Dr Goh, and Dr Nisfariza have come be the judges for the presentation session and give their advice to the student. 

CONCLUSION
As for conclude, the fieldwork session at Rawang sub-basin had been successfully which it also mean that the  project of “Governance of Landuse Conflicts in The Sungai Selangor Watershed” had complete the research from the upstream, middle stream, and also the lower stream.
